![]() ![]() The traffic safety camera program was shut down in March of 2020 as schools transitioned to remote learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City Council directed that net revenue from this program will be reinvested into traffic safety projects and programs, including funding this program expansion. The Cities of Kenmore and Kirkland permanently lowering the speed limit on 84th Ave NE from 35 to 30, which became effective July 5, 2022. ![]() 84th Avenue NE on Finn Hill has additional speed changes from Simonds Road NE to NE 124th Street. The goal of these cameras is to increase compliance with the 20 MPH speed limit to encourage more children and parents to walk and bike to and from school.įor the Finn Hill school zone, one camera will be installed on Southbound 84 th Avenue NE, and one will be installed northbound on 84 th Avenue NE. The Lakeview Elementary school zone had the highest volume of vehicles during the count and the highest percentage of vehicles traveling faster than 26 MPH, at 33% of vehicles. There are existing pathways for reviewing, issuing, paying, and contesting citations within the Police Department and Courts.įor Lakeview Elementary, one camera will be installed westbound on NE 68th Street, and one camera will be installed southbound on State Street at 7th Avenue South. The City will provide warnings for a short time period, and then will issue citations. The City will re-align the existing flashing school zone beacons to align better with the camera placement and is working to schedule the installation of the cameras with our vendor. ![]() Some residents will see cameras, flashing beacons or additional signage in the right-of-way abutting their property. The new signs notify drivers of the camera system’s use, as required by law.
